Accomplishments

I was the first to recommend the relocation of the 15 families from the Eufala Street area because of environmental issues related to the Cumberland County Landfill.

I assisted Representative Laura Tally in saving the North Carolina Human Relations Fair Employment Practices legislation.

I worked with Senator Tony Rand and Representative Laura Tally to ensure passage of the North Carolina Human Relations Commission’s Fair Housing Bill.

I worked with Former Representative Ted Kinney and Senator Larry Shaw for the location of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Park.

I was instrumental in the successful merger of the City/County Human Relations Departments to more effectively service all Cumberland County residents.

I established the Joint Council of Human Relations Agencies in Cumberland County.

I helped to redesign Seabrook Park to a more attractive and functional play area for local children.

I organized three neighborhood Resource Centers during my term with the Human Relations Department for the City of Fayetteville:

    Old Wilmington Road (Campbell Terrace area)
    Seabrook (Broadell area)
    Myers (Savoy Heights area)

I worked with the National Organization of Women to eliminate gender classification from job advertisements in the Fayetteville Observer Newspaper.

I was instrumental in the creation of the following Martin Luther King, Jr. recognitions:

    Fayetteville City Holiday
    Cumberland County School Holiday
    Cumberland County Government Holiday
    Martin Luther King Scholarship
    Renaming the CBD Loop

Established the first Study Circles project which led to the awarding of the All American City award for the City of Fayetteville.

Assisted in the development of a Fair Housing Ordinance (City Code Chapter 11) for the City of Fayetteville.

Published the first Minority Business Directories.

Increase minority employment in the city government.

Introduced an Employment Ordinance to Fayetteville City Council.

Instrumental in the design and implementation of a six-point community plan to help ease tensions surrounding school desegregation plans.

Worked with local delegation for the creation of Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday as a N.C. State Holiday.

Removal of KKK sign from Gillespie Street/Highway 301 South.

Food drive WTVD and US Post Carriers Union (Today Heart of Carolina Food Drive).

I created a Human Relations Annual Awards Recognition Program.

Assisted in the Annexation of Fairview Park/North Street Extension.

Removed Surplus Home Company from Fort Bragg for unfair housing practices.

Helped with the development of Savoy Heights Recreation Center and Park.

I assisted Wilmington Road Improvement Group to receive funds for the Splash Pad project.

I assisted Wilmington Road Improvement Group to receive funds to cover a creek in the Habitat Home Subdivision.

Helped develop a Mini-Park on Wilmington Road.

Guided Williams Chapel Freewill Baptist Church to over 3.5 Million Dollars in renovation, new construction and land acquisition.
